David Orr, a distinguished environmentalist, once said, “We heal the earth, we heal ourselves ‘’, thus at my first ever pop-up event as a WePlant’s ambassador I felt elated that I was making the first effort in helping and healing the earth. Upon preparing to attend my first pop-up event at Toutes Connexion in Roseau, I felt a mixture of perplexing emotions knowing I’m a very bashful person. Various thoughts ran across my open mind. Did people stop and listen to me ? Would they understand the point I’m trying to get across? However, as I started to interact and connect with the different people with the help of my fellow ambassadors, I felt a sigh of relief.
Simply witnessing people’s desire to know what WePlant Inc. is about and being interested in how we are trying to protect the environment made the anxiety I had go away. The most memorable moments I had were seeing my fellow ambassadors helping and supporting each other and observing how young people my age and many elders were interested in knowing about WePlant and ready to download the app. This brought me immense joy as this small-scale action may have brought a big change in their lives.
We live in a modern time where technology has taken over and a lot of our senior citizens in Dominica haven’t fully grasped the concept as yet. I once read a quote by a renowned motivational speaker and writer, Denis Waitley. Stating“Today’s challenges are tomorrow’s successes” and indeed we had our fair share of challenges with helping senior citizens navigate the app.
We typically carry WePlant Inc.’s portable Wi-Fi devices to assist users in downloading and signing up for the WePlant app. However, it remains uncertain whether senior citizens would be able to navigate the app independently. With time, we hope to implement specific features that will make the app more user-friendly and accessible for them.
As the day came to a close, I felt a deep sense of pride in the number of people I was able to engage with and inform about the transformative changes we’re striving to make through WePlant Inc.
As a first-time ambassador, I’m delighted to disseminate our journey as we try to preserve the wonderful earth we live on. I hope to see you at one of our various pop-up events.
